In 1969 Bernard, along with his wife Margaret, moved away from Cadbury and bought Langridge Farm just outside Crediton in Mid Devon and left his younger brother on the family farm.
Having been brought up not believing in the wholesale use of agro chemicals Bernard quickly found himself farming 'organically' and by the early 1980's he was at the fore front of the organic movement and a director at Organic Farmers & Growers (O.F & G).
From there Bernard worked on growing, not only the business, but the organic industry as a whole, giving us today the solid foundations that Langridge Organic Products has built its success upon.
Bernard has now retired from the wholesale business and almost fully from the farm although as you would expect he keeps himself very busy. His new passion is with his trees. Bernard now spends the majority of his time managing the woods on Langridge Farm, this has included a major planting of new trees as well as using the timber to produce everything from fire wood to bespoke garden furniture.
What he enjoys the most about his new way of life is not having a mobile and being constantly on the phone, something I am sure we can all relate too.
